Highway 32 Flatbed Towing to Preserve a Piece of History

The Journey of a World War I Cannon

In the heart of Ste. Genevieve, MO, a piece of history recently embarked on a remarkable Highway 32 flatbed towing journey. A World War I era cannon, a proud fixture at the VFW Post 2210 for nearly a century, was carefully loaded onto one of our flatbed trucks, marking the beginning of its restoration voyage.

The Historic Cannon Takes A Trip

Our role in this historic preservation was more than just a service; it was an honor for our entire towing team. We gladly ensured the cannon’s safe and secure transportation.

A Symbol of Sacrifice on the Move

Manufactured in 1914 by the Elswick Ordnance Company and known for its service in the Poppy fields of Flanders in 1918, this British Heavy Field Gun has been a silent witness to time. Weighing five tons and measuring 21 feet in length, the cannon’s journey from Memorial Hill to Parmer’s Sandblasting was not just any simple Highway 32 flatbed towing operation; it was history in motion.

Community and Commitment

Under the watchful eyes of local veterans and with an escort from the Ste. Genevieve County Sheriff’s Office, we transported the cannon to undergo a thorough restoration. This endeavor, supported by VFW and American Legion Post members, showcased the Ste. Genevieve community’s commitment to honoring the sacrifices of those who served.

Common Heritage Preserved

Once restored to its original glory, the cannon will return to a newly improved setting. This new setting will comprise a concrete pad and a historical marker. This restoration, slated for completion by Veterans’ Day, demonstrates the collective effort to preserve our common heritage for future generations.
